into a house this afternoon. >> we find news4's richard jordan. richard, tell us what happened there. >> reporter: first off, we can tell you that the couple that was inside the house is safe. firefighters were able to get them out and put them into a neighbor's home. there is still power throughout the neighborhood. however, the street is blocked off. this is nevada and nebraska. you can see the fire trucks, police trucks lined up here. right now what they're trying to do is assess the damage to that home. it appears, according to police, a strong burst of wind came through this neighborhood, knocked this large tree down. now, when that tree came down, branches from some of the trees right next to it also snapped. so not only was the home that was directly impacted, does that have a big hole right through the roof, but also the neighbor's home was clipped by some of these larger branches as well. so right now, what firefighters are doing is they're actually going through the home, making sure it is not compromised. the integrity of the home is not compromised, to see if maybe the re

states. millions remain without power this afternoon. news4's richard jordan is at the live desk in our newsroom. >> the damage is widespread beyond anything that area was prepared for and it will likely take weeks, even months before the recovery is complete. 22 people in the new york area are dead and that figure is expected to grow. there are massive power outages. hundreds of thousands of utility customers are in the dark. power lines are down. these live wires sparking fires in some cases. in queens, take a look at this six-alarm fire. it destroyed many homes. hospitals like nyu's medical center had to evacuate patients including babies in the neonatal units because they are without power. schools are closed. the subway system is at a standstill. service is expected to be suspended for four to five days. in new york and new jersey, neighborhoods are wiped out. right now an aerial search for survivors is underway. hundreds of people have refused to evacuate and instead, attempted to ride out the storm at home. take a look at the conditions of those homes. right now, governor chris c

'll join us live. >>> good morning everyone. i'm richard jordan. the time is 7:26 on this saturday, october 27th. all eyes on sandy this morning. storm team 4 meteorologist chuck bell is tracking the trofrm and is here with the latest forecast. now, chuck? >> good morning, richard. a good saturday morning everybody. cloudy skies are in place. you may get a little peeks at the sunshine today but on the whole clouds are going to win the day and once the clouds move in that's going to be it. it is going to be a long stretch before we see the sunshine again. temperatures upper 50s and low 60s now. it'll be a cloudy and cool start but a relatively mild day today with temperatures climbing into the upper, mid to upper 60s but plenty of clouds around and a bit breezy at times. tomorrow is when the weather really starts to go downhill. cloudy and wet tomorrow with rain and wind on the increase during the course of the day. and the potential for impacts, high impacts for wind and rain, lower eastern shore to the outer banks tomorrow but then as we get into monday and tuesday a high impact for rain,
jordan was out and about this afternoon in northwest d.c. he continues our team coverage now, where a tree fell on a house today. richard? >> reporter: yeah, jim and pat, i just spoke briefly with the couple that lives inside the house. they were home when this tree came down on top of their roof. they're assuming it was a strong burst of wind that came by. but you can see the large tree from their backyard just fell on top of their home. it also clipped some of the other trees nearby. so other branches came down as well, even the neighbor's home suffered some roof damage. all this happening here, nevada and nebraska, the couple that lives inside, fortunately they were not hurt. they were able to go back into their home, escorted by d.c. emergency management workers. they went inside to grab a couple of their belongings, then they were sent over to their neighbor's home. that's where they're going to stay at least for the time being. the fire crews are out here, as well as police, just trying to assess the damage to the homes and see if there was any structural damage. they have sin
